Jane here, from the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Over the last several weeks I have been cooped up in the tree house and nursing my health with a binge of Netflix and British television. Tarzan Jr and Jane Jr. have been binging on Doctor Who with the incomparable David Tennant and the BBC version of Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (Which I have also been enjoying but I won’t tell them). I have drowned myself in a Downton Abby binge (OMG – amazing show but more on that later) followed by a viewing of the Jane Eyre mini-series with Timothy Dalton as the mercurial Mr. Rochester, another version of Jane Eyre with William Hurt as Mr. Rochester, Mansfield Park starring Billie Piper (of Doctor Who notoriety), and a viewing of Great Expectations with Gillian Anderson as Miss Haversham.
Here’s what I have to say . . .Damn you Netflix for your “suggestions.” You have sucked up all of my time and I am avoiding everything else with your amazing fare! Curses to you BBC for your very well done adaptations, beautiful people, excellent acting, and solid screenplays. American television and movie studios beware . . .the British are coming and the invasion is going to produce far different results unless you change your tune.
